The Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) has recently been named the best foreign bank in Viet Nam by the leading financial publication Finance Asia.
This is the third consecutive year the bank has received the prestigious award, which acknowledged HSBC’s performance in the second half of 2007 and the first half of 2008.
HSBC was the first foreign bank to own 15% in a domestic bank in Viet Nam as it increased its stake in the Vietnam Technical and Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Techcombank) in July 2007.
Two months later, the bank purchased 10% of shares from the Bao Viet Insurance Group.
HSBC was the vanguard in introducing chip credit cards to Viet Nam in March 2008.
In addition, the bank is owning the biggest number of automated teller machines (ATMs) among foreign banks in Vietnam with 82 ATMs.
HSBC now is the largest foreign bank in Viet Nam in terms of capital, network of branches, kinds of products, numbers of staff and clients.
