Dec 31 - Stock market closes a year with a slight fall

Ending the last session of the year 2008, the Vietnam's stock market today December 31 slipped slightly after three consecutive increases. Opening the session, with the increasing impetus from previous session, the VN Index still gained 2.5 points or 0.79% to 318.82 pts with the total trading volume of over two million shares valued at 48.5 billion dong. In the following stage, the VN Index suddenly dropped 0.32 pts or 0.1% to 316 pts.

Finally, the VN Index lost 0.7 pts or 0.22% to 315.62 pts with the total matching order trade of 14.1 million shares worth 368 billion dong, increasing 3% in both volume and value from previous session.

Ending a year with many changes, the VN Index lost totally 611.4 points or 65.95% from the last session of last year with the lowest level of VN Index at 286.85 pts established on December 10, 2008.

Among 170 share codes and four fund certificates being listed on the southern bourse, the stock market witnessed 63 shares increased with 18 reaching the ceiling price, 72 others decreased with four falling to the floor price and 39 remaining shares stood still at the reference price.

DHG performed the biggest increase with 5,000 dong per share, IMP was up 3,500 dong and VSC bounced 2,500 dong per share.
Meanwhile, SFC lost 2,400 dong and SJS slipped 1,500 dong per share.

STB still led the market in terms of trading volume with 2.8 million shares, followed by PVD with over one million shares, VNE 610,000, SSI 490,000, FPT 430,000, HPG 420,000 and PPC with 410,000 shares being traded.

Similarly, Hanoi Securities Trading Centre (HaSTC) today December 31 continued falling as the HaSTC Index lost another 0.32 points or 0.3% to end at 105.12 pts with the total market trade of 6,129,966 shares worth nearly 167 billion dong.

Amongst 168 listed shares on the northern bourse, the stock market saw 66 shares increased, 11 shares with no trades namely BBS, BST, CJC, GHA, HEV, HSC, KMF, LUT, PVE, SRA and VDL, 22 shares stood still at the comparative price namely BLF, BTH, CSG, CTN, DAE, DCS, HAI, HPS, HUT, L43, ONE, PVA, SAP, SD7, SGD, SJE, SJM, SSM, SVC, TLC, TXM and VCG and 69 remaining shares decreased.

Some big gainers were KBC, NPS, SPP and VBH with 1,000 dong per share. Other gainers increased below 1,000 dong per share.

Meanwhile, DTC was the biggest loser with 1,900 dong, HLY slipped 1,500, PSC dropped 1,400, SDC and SDS tumbled 1,300 and TCS and TDN plunged 1,200 dong per share.
